Finance for Expats

Looking for a low-interest loan? Who isn't. You might to read the comments made by this reader in the know.

Hi there,
I have found your web page very interesting and based on fact. (I have also been here for 8 years.) I have been in Kyushu, Kansai and Tokyo over those years. I would like to bring one point to mention and that is, in your 'Banking' section you state that Japanese interest rates are very low and it is probably not worth keeping your money here. You are correct, however something that you may not know and perhaps many other foreigners don't either and that is that you can take advantage of the low Japanese interest rates and borrow yen for property in NZ or Aus. I have been appointed the Japanese representative for the ANZ bank here in Tokyo and we offer this service out of our Singapore branch to non-tax residents of Australia and NZ. There are a few limitations and obvious foreign exchange risks involved, however for ex-pats living in Japan, earning yen and still paying 6 or 7% interest on their loans at home (NZ or Aus), whilst incurring foreign exchange risk (sending money!
home to pay for it) it does bring a new meaning to the words 'super low interest rates'...
