April
Japan has two real starting points to the year; one is January 1st along with most other nations and the second is in April. April brings cherry blossoms and warm Spring weather. It is also the beginning of both the school and financial year.
If you are planning to visit Japan one of the best times of year to go is in the Spring. The weather is mild and people are in good spirits. This year the cherry blossoms were a little late but usually they are out around the beginning of the month (April).
You may also find lots of students all dressed up in their new school uniforms because it is the start of the school year. There is an Entrance Ceremony carried out at all schools for the brand new grade one students.
Also new recruits are employed in this time of year so it really is a time to celebrate. Many Japanese people celebrate Spring informally under the shade of the cherry trees-it's a great chance to drink and be merry!
This year I went to Kyoto to see the beauty of Spring. Take a peek at some of my favourite photos.
