Living in Japan : Welcome to all those who are new in Japan and those who are thinking about coming!

January 10th

Japan has many unique holidays. My favourite is Seijin no Hi.

Yes the Japanese calendar year is very unique. Slowly, but surely, I wish to tell you about some of the interesting holidays we have here in Japan.

Personally my favourite holiday of the calendar year is Seijin no Hi or Coming of Age Day in English. January 10th is the public holiday for celebrating people who will turn 20 years of age during the year.

Young women dress in exquisite kimonos with long sleeves and the guys generally wear suits.
The Back View

Today I was blown away by the effort the young women had gone to with their dress; stunning kimonos, false hair pieces, expensive fluffy neck pieces, make up and so on. The guys were a little bit of a let down. When are they gonna get it, dyed punk hairstyles and piercings, zits and suits just DON'T go together!

I was a little too shy to ask to take someone's photo to show you the real beauty of the event but if you come to Japan make sure you take a stroll outside on January 10th.
