For History Fans
Beautiful older style Japanese housing is found dotted along the countryside and can be seen whilst driving on the express ways that connect the major cities. However I was lucky enough to view some at the Open-Air Museum of Old Japanese Farm Houses.
The buildings, all from the Edo period, have been brought from all over the country and reconstructed in the natural outdoor park setting in Hattori Ryokuchi Park in Osaka prefecture. Exhibits include farm houses, a kabuki theatre, windmill, rice granary and more. Itfs a great chance to have a glimpse of the past first hand, and a pleasant and inexpensive day out.
